Author guidelines
AUTHOR GUIDELINES
The Secretariat of Science high-quality scientific and popular science books, subject to external blind peer review, which contribute to addressing problems and relevant solutions for regional, state, national or global society, thereby generating a national or international social good.
PERMANENT OPEN BOOK PUBLISHING PROGRAM
PARTICIPANTS
- Are eligible to participate: Researchers, full-time professors and subject teachers affiliated with the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx), as well as independent researchers with a completed and unpublished scientific work that addresses current, innovative, and proactive topics.
- Each participant may submit one unpublished work, which must not be currency under consideration by another publisher, whether private or public.
REQUIREMENTS
- Unpublished works must align with any of the fields of knowledge recognized by the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (SECIHTI)
- Must be scientific, reflective, or innovative, aimed at debating urgent issues in Mexico and the world.
- Works must present clearly the results of documentary or field research.
- Content must be proactive, maintaining a responsible and ethical stance that contributes to the reflection, generation, or application of knowledge.
- Works must address contemporary themes of social utility from an original, critical, and scientifically grounded perspective.
- Publications can be specialized or aimed at scientific dissemination, and must be written based on five core principles:
- Coherence
- Correspondence
- Conciseness
- Consistency
- Clarity in the exposition of ideas
- Each chapter of the work must be uniform at their length, depth content, critical apparatus, and structure.
- Works must be monographs or coordinated volumes: meaning individual authorship (from 1 to 3 authors on the title page) or coordinated up to three individuals (consisting in six chapters of up to two authors, each with different disciplinary perspectives, yet united by a central theme).
- Coordinated works must count with their own criteria for content composition and chapter organization.
- Works derived from postgraduate thesis will be accepted, as long as they have been restructured into a book format, regarding their sections, scientific-technical, or popular science discourse aimed to a specialized or general audience, and have not been partially or fully published by any other public or private publisher.
- Unpublished work must be submitted via email within the timeline indicated in the call for papers.
- Once the unpublished work is submitted, authors must consider that they will not be able to make substantive changes, additions or reductions to the version under evaluation, except under verified cases of force majeure.
- Works created with Artificial Intelligence will be discarded.
- Works partially or fully published that do not include properly cited sources or the corresponding copyright permissions will not be accepted.
- Upon receiving an editorial request, the Secretariat of Science will issue an official acknowledgement of receipt.

PUBLISHING FORMATS
- According to the Article 12 of the Editorial Function Regulations, Open books support shall be electronic and disseminated via Open Access, at the Institutional Repository, taking into consideration the specific guidelines and current University Legislation.
- The books may be published in a printed format if the author has independent funding allocated by an external research project.
Once the unpublished work is submitted, authors must consider that they will not be able to make substantive changes, additions or reductions to the version under evaluation, except under verified cases of force majeure.
WORK SUBMISSION
Follow these steps to submit your work to the UAEMéx Digital Platform for Open Books:
- Register or Log In: Create an account in the platform through the following link or, if you already have an account, log in here
Note: an institutional email account is required (@uaemex)
- Prepare the Required Document: Ensure you have the following files ready:
- Original manuscript file in Word or PDF format.
- Anonymous version of the original manuscript (must not contain any personal author information such as names, surnames, etc) in Word o PDF format.
- Zip folder containing all images, charts, tables, etc.
- Official editorial request letter.
- Review the Author Manual: Download the Author Manual to understand the detailed submission workflow.
- Submit your work: Once received, the system will send a confirmation email to your registered address.
- Track progress: Monitor the status of your submission through the platform with your user account; in addition, you will receive automated notifications with each phase of the process.
